Slave trade
European wealth was based on the cruel exploitation of slaves for a long time. They were bought in West Africa, often using what were known as manilla rings (3), and shipped to America. The Swedish colony of Saint-Barthélemy was one of the places where slaves were traded. The display case contains some of the coins used there
