The Skänninge Hoard

A hoard from a grave in Östergötland is displayed in this case. It contains coins from both Svealand and Gotland. Several different monetary systems existed in Sweden up to the end of the 13th century. Coins from Götaland (1–3), Svealand (4) and Gotland (8) were used in parallel and were of different sizes, weights and values.
