Who can issue money?
Today, the Riksbank is responsible for issuing coins and banknotes in Sweden. But private banks also play an important role. They create the electronic money in your account.
Cash was in short supply in Sweden in the 18th century. To resolve the problem, people issued their own banknotes. This is more or less what banks do today.
