2 dukat, Augsburg, Gustav II Adolf, 1632
Augsburg in Bavaria, in southern Germany, was captured by Gustav II Adolf in 1632 and held by the Swedes until 1634, when the German Imperial Army recaptured the city. Swedish coins were made from both gold and silver there.
The obverse (front) of the coin you see here shows a double portrait of Gustav II Adolf and his wife, Maria Eleonora. On the reverse (back) is the Swedish coat of arms together with the Brandenburg coat of arms, and below them the coat of arms of the city of Augsburg, a pine cone.
