2 riksdaler, Bremen-Verden, Karl XI, 1674

The coin you see here features the Bremen-Verden coat of arms, crossed keys and a cross within a palm wreath.

In 1648, Sweden took control of the areas of Bremen and Verden in present-day Germany. These then became the Duchy of Bremen-Verden. As the city of Bremen was not part of the Swedish territory, the Bremen-Verden coin was struck in Stade, west of Hamburg.

In 1719, Sweden handed over Bremen-Verden to King George I of Great Britain.
