3 daler silvermynt, Stockholm, Gustav III, 1776

This coin was struck in 1776, the same year that Gustav III's coinage reform was announced on 27 November. With the coinage reform, the riksdaler would become the main coin, divided into 48 skillings and runstycken (1 skilling = 12 runstycken). The medieval coinage of mark, öre and penningar had come to an end. On the coin on display we can see the preparations for the reform. The denomination of the coin is in both daler sm and riksdaler (3 daler sm = 1 riksdaler).
