Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB, 1721

This token was struck by Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag in Dalarna for use in the mining district’s trading area. Some of the mining district’s tokens were valid as coins all over the country due to a shortage of copper coins. The denomination of this token was 10 mark kopparmynt, equivalent to 26 2/3 öre silvermynt.

One side of the token indicates who issued it and in what year: “Store Kopparbergz Lagens Pollet” and “ettusend siuhundrade tiugu ett” – Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag, 1721.

On the other side we see Kopparberget and the town of Falun, together with the inscription “Begge ett ändamåhl” (Both for a purpose), which tells us about the union between the mining districts around Stora Kopparberg and the town of Falun.
