Örtug, Stockholm, Sten Sture d.ä., 1478
Coins bearing a portrait of Erik the Saint and an inscription indicating that he was king were typical of the coinage produced during the governorship of Sten Sture the Elder (1470–1497 and 1500–1503). The inscription around his portrait reads SAS ERICVS REX (= King St Erik). No coins bearing Sten Sture’s own name and portrait were minted. The other side of the coin bears the Swedish three-crown shield with an inscription indicating that the coin was minted in Stockholm.
