Emergency banknote – 100 kronor
The motifs on the emergency banknotes differ from those on the normal banknotes. The 100 krona note features a portrait of Carl Linnaeus instead of Mother Svea. Emergency banknotes were intended to be used in the event of war and were printed in secret in 1951.
Carl Linnaeus is the Swede who has appeared on the most banknotes. In 1894, Smålands Enskilda Bank issued banknotes with Linnaeus as a motif. On the backs of their 100 and 50 krona banknotes, Linnaeus is depicted en face (straight from the front), and on the 10 krona banknotes in profile. The Riksbank's 50 krona banknote from 1965 features a picture of Linnaeus holding a lily of the valley in his hand. The 100-krona banknotes issued by the Riksbank in 1986 have a portrait of Linnaeus on the front, engraved after a painting by Alexander Roslin.
