Medal commemorating king Karl X Gustav's campaign over Little and Great Belt 1657

Denmark went to war with Sweden in 1657. The Swedish army had been on a war footing in Poland for a couple of years at the time. Now they had to head for Denmark and Copenhagen. Thanks to the cold winter, the ice was thick and the army led by king Karl X Gustav was able to travel from Jutland via Funen to Zealand by crossing the Little and Great Belt.

The war ended with the Peace of Roskilde, where Denmark ceded Skåne, Blekinge, Halland and Bohuslän to Sweden.
