10 kronor, Trondheim, Norges bank, 1879

The first Norwegian 10 kroner banknote features a portrait of the Union King Oscar II wearing an admiral's uniform. It is very unusual for a reigning king to be depicted on a banknote, and it caused quite a stir when it was issued. The banknote also features the Norwegian coat of arms, surrounded by the arms of Oslo and Trondheim, among others. The text states that the banknote was issued in Trondheim and that the Bank of Norway promises to redeem it for ten kroner in gold coins. The banknote number and signature can be found at the bottom of the banknote.
