5 öre, Stockholm, Ulrika Eleonora, 1719

Between 1719 and 1764, silver 5-öre coins were minted. They used to be called ’enkel pjäs’ (single piece), or 6 styver. The word ‘pjäs’ comes from the French pièce, which means piece and part. 10 öre was called a double piece. The value of the 5-öre coin was raised to 6 öre. So even though it said 5 öre on it, it was worth 6 öre. But instead of calling it 6 öre, they said 6 styver. The 10 öre coins were called 12 styver.
