2/3 riksdaler, Stockholm, Gustav III, 1779

The coin on display shows the portrait of King Gustav III and the small coat of arms of Sweden surrounded by the chain of the Order of the Seraphim. The Order of the Seraphim was established in 1748 when Fredrik I was king and is Sweden's foremost order. The chain with the seraphim, the angels closest to God, was designed by Carl Hårleman, who was one of the most prominent architects in Sweden during the 18th century.
