Penning, Götaland, Magnus ladulås, 1275–1290
One of the many Magnus Ladulås coins bearing his initial M. It is shown as a capital letter, without mint marks (symbols) and with a radial ring around the edge. Magnus reigned from 1275 until his death in 1290. He was succeeded by his son, Birger Magnusson.
In 1285, King Magnus referred to eight mints (MONETA) in his will. Four of them are located in Götaland – Jönköping, Skara, Skänninge, Söderköping. This specimen comes from one of those.
