Medal commemorating the death of king Gustav II Adolf November 6th 1632

After the death of King Gustav II Adolf in 1632, many commemorative coins and medals were struck. This medal is from 1634, the year the king was buried in the new burial choir in Riddarholm Church. On the front of the medal we see the dead king and above him angels carrying the king's soul to heaven, in the background the fleeing German army is visible.

The texts in Latin mean:
""Gustavus Adolphus the Great, by the grace of God the honourable king of the Swedes, the Goths, and the Wends - Excellent, faithful servant! - They flee even for the dead - Born 9 December 1594, he died gloriously on 6 November 1632"".

On the reverse of the medal, Gustavus II Adolf is depicted in a triumphal chariot, and above his head the Wreath of Religious Freedom and Valour is held.
