1/6 riksdaler, Stockholm, Stockholm, Gustav III, 1773

This is the first type of King Gustav III's 16-öre coin, struck in 1773-1774. On the obverse (front) we see Gustav's crowned monogram G together with his motto ‘FÄDERNESLANDET’ (the fatherland) and on the reverse (back) is Sweden's small coat of arms on a round shield surrounded by the chain of the Order of the Seraphim, the denomination and the year of minting. Prior to the coinage reform of 1776, when it was decided that the riksdaler would be Sweden's main coin, the status of the 16-öre coin was raised by adding the king's portrait on the obverse.
