50 kronor, Volvo AB, 1970-09-01

Volvo was founded in 1915 as a subsidiary of SKF and in 1927 the first car was produced. But there was more to come, including lorries. By 1945, Volvo was the only company in the world producing cars, lorries, buses and tractors. From the start, the idea was to become an export company with its own design development. As Volvo grew, it bought up subcontractors and eventually moved into other areas - such as the food and pharmaceutical industries. Safety was prioritised in passenger cars and Volvo became a model for other car manufacturers.

Volvo's partnership with the Renault Group began in 1979, and in 1999 the passenger car production was sold to Ford Motor Company. Today's Volvo mainly manufactures all kinds of trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine propulsion systems and engines. The Volvo car group, which manufactures passenger cars, has been owned by the Chinese Geely Holding since 2010.
