10 taler, Stralsund(Pommern), Adolf Fredrik, 1759

After the death of King Karl XII, Sweden left about half of the Pomeranian Duchy, including the city of Stettin, to Prussia. Stralsund then became the capital of Swedish Pomerania.

A decision was made not to mint any new coins in Stralsund between 1715 and 1757 – the coins of neighbouring countries were used instead. Minting resumed in 1758 because Sweden needed to provide the Swedish army with money during the Seven Years’ War (1756–1763). The Seven Years’ War was a war between Prussia and Great Britain–Hanover and Austria, France, Russia, Sweden and a number of German states.

Note that this coin bears the portrait of the Swedish sovereign, unlike previous coins issued in Stralsund.
