Production waste, bone and antler

In the stand there is a selection of waste from the excavations in the Bromsgården neighbourhood in Örebro, consisting of sawn bone and horn. Bone and horn waste came from the production of many different types of objects, including combs, game pieces, needles, skates, spoons and handles.

The origin of the raw material varied. Many bones came directly from nearby slaughterhouses, where the meat-poor parts were disposed of. The straight metatarsal bones of cattle were among the most popular parts to use in bone crafts. Horns were imported from near and far.
