Gustaf Lundberg, "Anna Johanna Grill", 1770

Anna Johanna Grill was married to Claes Grill, the director of the East India Company’s trading company in Stockholm. The family lived at Stortorget in Stockholm and had a summer cottage in Svindersvik. Both buildings are still standing.

Anna Johanna owned a large collection of coins. She belonged to a wealthy family, was well-off and could afford to collect rare and precious coins. Her son, Adolph Ulrik, inherited the collection and added to it with his own purchases. The Royal Coin Cabinet owns most of it.

This portrait was painted by the artist Gustaf Lundberg for Anna Johanna’s 50th birthday in 1770.
