Penning, Götaland, Knut Eriksson, 1167–1196

This coin features a crowned head and the word LEDVS. LEDVS stands for Lödöse, where the coin was made, and this is the oldest known source where the name of the town is referred to in the inscription.

This coin is believed to have been issued by King Knut Eriksson, possibly before 1180, as he issued similar coins that also showed a crowned head and were made in Lödöse. These coins bear the inscription KANVTVS REX S (= Knut, King of the Swedes) and a sword.
