Melted lump, lead

Excavations of the Bromsgården neighbourhood in Örebro found a number of objects that can be linked to metal crafts. One example is this irregular lump of lead, a so-called smelt. Smelts are waste materials from the casting and smelting of metals. They are common in craft contexts and must have been found in the mint in Örebro, where lead and silver were melted down in connection with the production of bracteates, one-sided coins.
