1 riksdaler, Stockholm, Fredrik I, 1723

This coin is what is known as a “krellmynt”. It is part of a series of riksdaler coins bearing the date 1723, which were issued at the suggestion of Paul Krell, who was responsible for the Governor Treasure.

This type of coin is struck using the die for the lower denomination – coins worth 1 riksdaler were struck with the ½ riksdaler die. But to make up for that, they were twice as thick to as to be of the right weight. These are regarded as tokens.

This is a 1 riksdaler coin struck using a ½ riksdaler die in 1723.
