Penning, Svealand, Erik Eriksson, 1222–1229, 1234–1250
The inscription REX VPSALIE (= King of Uppsala, now Gamla Uppsala, Old Uppsala) is written around an open crown with a tall lily in the centre. This penning coin has a high silver content. The coin may have been struck for King Erik Eriksson – known as “the Lisp and Lame” – who reigned from 1222 to 1229 and 1234 to 1250, or for someone else in the interim.
A half coin of the same type was found together with several Svealand pennings in 1967 during an archaeological survey of the church ruins at Flasta mur in Uppland.
