The 1465–1467 period was a politically turbulent time in Sweden, which was part of the Kalmar Union in those days. A number of governors were appointed and dismissed in succession without anyone establishing their control over Sweden.

This coin was minted during this period. Around the shield bearing three crowns, the outer inscription indicates that the coin was minted in Stockholm. The other side of the coin bears the name of St Erik, which would become a common sight on Swedish coins for the rest of the 15th century and on into the 16th century.
