16 öre, Stockholm, Erik XIV, 1563
Erik XIV reduced the silver content of his coins, which later led to Sweden experiencing widespread inflation. The last reduction came in 1563 with the 2 mark coins issued without a dot in the Svealand shield, the small coat of arms. They have a silver content of 344/1000. On the obverse (front) we see a cross over the year of minting, which tells us that the coin was struck at Gråmunksholmen.
The coin rate dropped during Erik's reign but soon it would get much worse!
