1 riksdaler, Stockholm, Karl XIV Johan, 1820

On King Karl XIV Johan's riksdaler coins, the king is depicted with a so-called neck portrait, where only the head and neck are depicted, which became common during the reign of King Adolf Fredrik. The portrait was made by the coin engraver Lars Grandel, who was to make portraits of King Karl XIV Johan until his retirement in 1830, when he turned 80. On the reverse of the coin, we can read the king's motto ‘THE PEOPLE'S LOVE MY REWARD’.
