2 kronor, Stockholm, Gustaf V, 1942
In 1942, Sweden got a new two-krona coin. The new two- krona's fine weight, the weight of the silver in the coins, is lower than for the previous one - 400/1000 instead of 800/1000. The King's portrait has been updated and we now see the 84-year-old King instead of the one just over 30 years younger. Below the portrait is St Erik's head and a G - showing that the coin was struck in Stockholm and that Alf Grabe was the mintmaster. The mintmaster was the person who led the work in the mint.
If you look closely, you can also see the engraver Erik Lindberg's signature, an E and an L. Erik Lindberg was the son of the mint's former engraver Adolf Lindberg, who engraved the previous two-crown coins. Around the edge of the coin we can see the King's title and his motto ‘WITH THE PEOPLE FOR THE FATHERLAND’, which has now been moved to the obverse of the coin.
