Penning, Sigtuna, Anund Jakob, circa 1020–1030

The coin’s obverse (front) shows the king’s face in profile, with a pointed helmet. This coin was made in Sigtuna during the reign of King Anund Jakob (circa 1022–1030) and imitates the English coin known as a “Pointed Helmet”.

Although the coin is similar to English coins, the inscription on the reverse (back) clearly shows it isn’t one of them. It says that a man by the name of Thormoth had the coin minted in “ZIH”, i.e. Sigtuna.
