Penning, Stockholm, Albrekt av Mecklenburg, 1364–1370

During Albrecht of Mecklenburg's reign as King of Sweden, both penningar and örtugar were issued. The coins are bracteate, and a large group of these have been traced to his reign, 1364-1389. They show a crowned head in several variants. One of the variants has a split beard, in which he is recognised from contemporary portraits.

The most elaborate of Albrecht's crowned head coins is shown here and is believed to be one of the first, issued until 1370. They were all minted in Stockholm.
