1 dukat, Stockholm, Stockholm, Gustav III, 1781

It is with the reign of King Gustav III that the motto begins to be written in Swedish instead of Latin. His motto ‘Fäderneslandet’, the Fatherland, is very appropriate in this context. However, the text on the obverse (front) of the coin is still in Latin: ‘GUSTAVUS III D(EI) G(RATIA) REX SVECIAE’ - Gustav III, by the grace of God, King of Sweden.
