1/4 dukat, Stockholm, Karl XI, 1692

This is the lowest ducat denomination struck in Sweden, minted for just seven years – from King Karl XI in 1792 to Adolf Fredrik in 1755.

On the obverse (front) we see a portrait of Karl XI, along with his name and title. On the reverse (back) we see neither the three crowns of the small coat of arms nor the king’s coat of arms, but only the king’s crowned mirror monogram, 1692 (the year in which the coin was minted) and the denomination – ¼ ducat. This is the first time the denomination was shown on a Swedish gold coin.
