Wooden box, covered with leather and fitted with iron fittings

The casket is made of wood, covered with leather and fitted with tinned forged fittings. The forging was decorative, provided stability and prevented theft. It was also valuable, and items with forging are almost always included in older inventories. The casket comes from a church, where it was probably used to store valuables.

On the inside of the lid is an imprint of a piece of parchment used as a cover. The words on the imprint indicate that this is a hymn to St Cecilia, the patron saint of music.
