Emergency banknote – 5 kronor

The emergency banknote in the denomination of 5 kronor has Esaias Tegnér as the motif on the front, and the reverse features the Tre Kronor castle in a medallion. Emergency banknotes were intended to be used in the event of war and were printed in secret in 1951.

Tegnér is known, among other things, for having written the national epic ‘Frithiofs saga’, which was published in 1825. In addition to his work as a poet, Tegnér has also become known for his letter writing, in which he deals with both large and small matters, all in a blissful mixture. Thousands of letters from Tegnér have been preserved.
