Penning, Götaland, Erik Eriksson, 1222–1229, 1234–1250

There are two variants of this Götaland penning depicting a head with a royal crown. One is surrounded by the inscription “ERIC REX” (“King Eric” in Latin), the other has no inscription. Both are believed to have been issued by Erik Eriksson the Lisp and Lame, who was king of Sweden from 1222 to 1229 and 1234 to 1250.

They have an equivalent in Svealand pennings, both with and without the letters E and R on either side of the king’s crowned head.
