18 groschen, Elbing, Karl X Gustav, 1656
The Swedes established a new mint in Elbing, in present-day Poland, in December 1655 when King Karl X Gustav captured the city. Coins were minted there for a few months in 1656 to be paid to the Swedish army in Prussia.
The denomination was 18 groschen (ort), and they bore the portrait and name of Karl X Gustav on the obverse (front). On the reverse (back) was a lion with three crowns, the small Swedish coat of arms.
