During Magnus Eriksson’s time on the throne, Sweden was ruled by a regency government made up of the church leaders and the noblemen. Magnus Eriksson was just three years old when he became king. Banknotes with a completely new appearance were issued during his first reign.
For the first time, the coins depict the Folkung lion in combination with the royal crown. The earliest coins are beautifully and carefully crafted. The design became less elaborate over time, but with the same combination, a Folkung lion and a crown.
These coins were minted until around 1340, when they were succeeded by pennings with a Folkung lion on one side and three opposing crowns on the other.
