Pollett, Avesta Järnverk

This type of token was used when weighing newly minted plate coins. Tokens with – as in this case – an embossed “C” meant that the crown’s plates were being weighed. The same type of token with an embossed “B” meant that the plate coins were minted by the mining district itself. These tokens were used from the late 17th century and for as long as plate coins were minted – until 1768.
