1 mark, Stockholm, Kristina, 1634

This 1 mark coin, minted in Stockholm in 1634, depicts Queen Kristina on her eighth birthday. She is standing in front of a table where the sceptre and crown that will one day be hers are waiting. She has picked up the orb and cross and is holding it in her left hand. At this time, Sweden was ruled by a guardianship government, led by Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, after Kristina's father King Gustav II Adolf was killed in the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) in 1632. The coin was made ten years before Kristina became regent when she came of age in 1644, and a further six years before she was crowned in 1650. On the reverse of the coin is the denomination 8 öre, which is equal to 1 mark.
