Penning, Götaland, Erik Eriksson, 1222–1229, 1234–1250
Götaland pennings bearing a single crown motif were probably minted for Erik Eriksson during his second period as king, between 1234 and 1250. There are several variants of this type of coin, sometimes with a star under the crown. However, they always have a plain ring around the edge.
There is also a more recent variant of the coin with three letters under the crown: VAL. This was issued by Valdemar, successor to King Erik.
Several coins of this type were part of a large hoard found by a farmer and his mother at Brunnsgården, Östergötland in 1786.
