Presenter dish, Henning Petri, Nyköping, 1690s

One of the most magnificent artefacts in the Lohe hoard is a large oval silver dish in the Baroque style. This dish was found on top of one of the bronze cauldrons in which the hoard was found, and it was probably made in the 1690s.

It depicts a landscape with a putto (child) who is blowing soap bubbles and leaning against a skull. The mythological motif is regarded as an allegory of mortality. The design on the board depicts birds, fruit and vines. The dish was made in Nyköping by the goldsmith Henning Petri (who was active from 1657 to 1702).
