Nobel, England, London, Edvard III, 1351

This gold coin was minted in London after 1360 when Edward III was King of England (1327–1377). He also ruled Ireland and Aquitaine, part of southern France.

Around his armed portrait standing on a boat is the inscription: EDWARD DEI GRA REX ANGL DNS HIBN Z AC (= Edward by the Grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland and Aquitaine).

The other side shows a cross surrounded by a lion and crowns. The inscription is a biblical reference: + IHC AVTEM TRANCIENS P MEDIUM ILLORUM IBAT (= But Jesus passed through them and went on his way).

This coin was found in a coin pit during a survey of Västergatan in Lund, Skåne.
