10 riksdaler riksmynt, Gotlands Enskilda Bank, 1869

Gotlands Enskilda Bank began operating in 1869 and was based in Visby. The first banknotes were issued the following year: 5, 10, 50 and 100 riksdaler riksmynt. The vignette shows Gotland’s coat of arms, the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei), under a crown. In 1879, the Bank issued banknotes in the 5, 10, 50 and 100-krona denominations.This 1869 note, in the 10 riksdaler riksmynt denomination, was issued under the first charter, which continued until 1878. A charter is the period during which the bank is entitled to conduct banking operations. This banknote was printed at the J. Bagge printing works in Stockholm.

The bank issued banknotes from 1869 to 1893 and gave up its right to issue banknotes in 1902.
