Örtug, Stockholm, Sten Sture d.y., 1512

This örtug was minted in Stockholm in 1512, when Sten Sture the Younger was Governor of Sweden. The crowned “S” should be viewed as a reference to Stockholm as the place where the coin was minted, rather than Sten Sture’s initial. Stockholm is also referred to in the outer inscription. On the other side of the coin, though, we see the name of Sten Sture (STEEN STVRE RITTER). Sten Sture usually had coins minted in the name of Erik the Saint.
