Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB, 1765
This token was minted for use by Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag in Dalarna. They had been using their own copper tokens in the mining district’s trading area since the 17th century. Tokens could be used all over the country when copper coins became scarce in Sweden in the 18th century.
As a coin, this token was worth 6 öre kopparmynt. The mining district also had a smaller token bearing the same motif that was worth 3 öre kopparmynt.
On one side of the token we see the mill stamp over crossed Dalecarlian arrows, and on the other side we see a mountain with the sign for copper surrounded by rays. The copper for the tokens came from the Falu copper mine and, like the regular coins, they were struck at the Avesta mint.
