Penning, Götaland, Magnus ladulås, 1275–1290

This coin bears a capital M and a plain ring around the edge. M stands for King Magnus Ladulås. The coin comes in several variants, and some have dots in different places around the letter.

Almost all Magnus Ladulås silver pennings are bracteates – that is, they have only one motif on one side. There is only one exception to this, as far as we know.

However, they all feature the letter M in various forms. Different typefaces are used to distinguish the many issues, and along the edge there is sometimes a plain ring and sometimes a radial ring.
