The Agricultural Society of Södermanland medal for controlled breeding of cattle.

At the end of the 19th century, one of the main tasks of the "hushållningssällskapen" (the Rural Economy and Agricultural Societies) was to reward controlled breeding of cattle. The aim was that a stronger herd would increase milk production to the benefit of both the individual farmer and the agricultural industry as a whole, and thus the national budget.
