1 öre, Stockholm, Karl X Gustav, 1659

The 1-öre coins of King Karl X are very similar to those of Queen Christina, but instead of the coat of arms of the House of Vasa with the vase on the obverse (front) we see the lion of the House of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. On the reverse we see the small coat of arms, three crowns, and the denomination 1 ÖR(E). Below Ö and R we see the letters G and W. These are the initials and mintmaster's mark of the mintmaster Göran Wagner. Göran was the mintmaster, director of the mint, in Stockholm between 1658-1664 and thus responsible for ensuring that the coins struck had the correct weight and silver content.
