3 riksdaler banco, Privat Banken i Örebro, 1837
Örebro Enskilda Bank in Närke was founded in 1837 as Privat-Banken i Örebro. Here we see one of its first banknotes, 3 riksdaler banco from 1837, printed by Riksbankens sedeltryckeri, the Riksbank’s banknote printing works. Its vignette depicts two burning torches.
The name Enskilda Banken i Örebro was adopted in 1846, and this went on to become Örebro Enskilda Bank from 1857. The vignettes show the coat of arms of the province of Närke, the Roman god Mercury and symbols of the industries. From 1877, the banknotes have the statue of Engelbrekt in Örebro on the obverse, and from 1894 they have Örebro Castle on the reverse.
The bank issued banknotes from 1837 to 1896 and gave up its right to issue banknotes in 1902.
