1 penning, Svartsjö, Gustav I Vasa, 1547

Between 1545 and 1548, the denomination 1 penning (worth 192 to the mark) was minted, the lowest denomination under Gustav Vasa. The denomination, which is a silver coin, had already existed for over 500 years in Sweden, but was minted for the last time at the mint at Svartsjö Castle in 1548.

The obverse (front) of the coin shows a lion against a background of streams and the legend (the text on the coin) states that Gustav Vasa is the King of Sweden. The reverse (reverse side) shows the three-crowned shield and has Gustav Vasa's motto ‘OMNIS POTETAS A DEO’ which translates to ‘All power is of God’. Gustav Vasa's coins had a very low silver content, its grain was only 125/1000 and the weight only 0.24 g.
